Bomber Buzz

Yankee catcher Jesus Montero created a buzz in Scarsdale, N.Y., this afternoon. The young catcher was in town for an autograph signing at the new Last Licks on Palmer Ave.

While the excited crowd stood around the corner to meet Montero, the 22-year-old Venezuelan had Nationals’ catcher Wilson Ramos on his mind.

Montero was happy to hear that Ramos was saved by Venezuelan law enforcement two days after his abduction.

“He’s my friend, I feel sad. I know him for a long time. I was really worried when I heard the news yesterday,” says Montero. “I was crying a little bit because it’s not an easy situation. Thank God everything is fine and the police took care of everything over there.”

Montero admits it was a big relief to see that Ramos returned home after the horrifying ordeal.

“I was so happy today when my mom told me Ramos is safe at home,” says Montero, from the counter of the Last Licks store. “I want him to plays in the bigs a long time, I was like, ‘come on man,’ I don’t want nothing to happen to him.”

Despite the dangers, Montero plans on heading to Venezuela and return to the United States in January.

“It scared my a little bit, but it taught me things that you have to be careful where you go,” says Montero, who batted .328 last season in 18 games with the Yankees. “Venezuela is not easy, you have to know where you are at and you’ll be good.”

When Montero returns from his country, the catcher will head to Miami to workout with Alex Rodriguez and get in better shape.
